It is said that school helps inculcate values in students. To some extent it might be true but it is not always that the education system ensures that the students imbibe all the good values. It is not necessary that the education system is always sucessful in nurturing morals and values in the students.
Most of the time we do not go in the depth of everything. In today's article let us discuss how the feelings of hatred, competition, insecurity, failure and rejection arise in human beings.
If we try to think about the origin of these emotions we might be able to understand the root cause of these problems. Who created the feeling of " Inferiority Complex" in this world. This was created by our very own education system. Clearly speaking the mad race of securing first position in academics is the biggest contributor for the origin of feeling of inferiority. Reason being in a class of 35 students only one child can secure first position and the remaining 34 students are left behind. Even if Lord Bramha uses all his powers he cannot make sure that all the 35 students come on position one.
But each and every parent expects that my son or daughter should be a topper. If not a topper in the country then in state, if not in state then in the district, if not in the district then atleast he/she should be a school topper. If not in all subjects, atleast in any one subject the child should be a topper. Parents feel that a child gets recognition in the society only if he or she is able to secure position in top 10. This kind of a thought process actually pressurises the education system to produce toppers only.
To make one child successful we are playing with the emotions of the remaining 34 children. In the process of giving recognition to one child we demoralize the remaining 34. To make one child proud we unknowingly put the remaining 34 students at stake. But we are unable to see this. One child wins and 34 students fail. Then the remaining 34 students compete among themselves. So this competitive feeling amongst students only creates hatred and there is no place for love.
From Nursery to Graduation means for 18 years these 34 students who didn't come first are taught to accept failure. In human psychology there is a concept of Law of conditioning, if we go by this law we are conditioning them to accept failures. So these students develop an inferiority complex and they believe that they are going to be failures for life and can never be successful. From all this we are creating a generation which readily accepts defeat.
So our current education system is developing people with an attitude of a failure. Later on these people feel low on confidence. They always feel my business is not going good, I cannot face an interview, I cannot face a crowd.
Till now our education system has created faces which are sad, depressed, defeated and our exam system is responsible for this. Our mindset of always being number one is actually producing these sad and depressed faces.
" I will always fail", is the feeling which is a result of our examination system. This needs to be changed.Thoughts like - I secured less marks, I failed, I was not able to secure first position should not make one feel depressed but instead it should be accepted with responsibility. A child's capabilities cannot be decided by the marks scored in exams.
If we wish to spread the feeling of love and co operation among people on earth, then we need to completely stop unhealthy competition amongst ourselves. Sad, depressed faces cannot develop a powerful nation. The opening statement of the Kothari commision says, "The destiny of India is being shaped in her classrooms. " So is it correct to create a competitive feeling amongst students of these classrooms?
So the people with feeling of joy, those who do not compare themselves with other, are free from the feeling of hate and jealousy, do not feel inferior to anyone are required.
That is why in school the students should have the feeling of love and co operation for their classmates and this feeling should cross over the boundries of classrooms as well.
This can be achieved by changing the examination pattern. That is why "Continuous and comprehensive evaluation" should be followed on priority.
CCE pattern is the only way to find out unique qualities of individual student and it helps to further find out how the students can be moulded as per their capabilities. The law of equality does not holds good here and that is why the teachers should not judge a child on the basis of the marks scored by them.
Even the parents should focus more on EQ and SQ rather than the IQ of the child. Instead of memorizing for the exams the child should understand the concepts and appear for exams on the basis of self study. Such a kind of thought process needs to be encouraged.
If we decide the child's potential based on their skills rather than their scores then even if the child scores less marks it will stop him from developing a feeling of inferiority and low self esteem in his mind. Their faces won't not look depressed anymore and the sense of cooperation will be generated in them automatically.
